If I could change one thing about my skin, it would be my lack (severe lack) of natural oil. As I've mentioned before, I am very dry. In the process of trying to find hydrating and soothing products, I scored big time with Murad's Revitalixir Recovery Serum and use it every single day.
My evening skincare routine is quite simple, as I don't believe that using 92 products will do any favors for your skin. Simple is key. Especially when you find things that work well with your skin, and you can tell a huge difference once you've given the products a fair try. I have about four steps to my evening routine, with the occasional pamper session after a long day or on the weekend.
1.) Cleanse. I am a huge fan of Bioderma and am so thankful that it is finally available in the US. One cotton square and you can remove almost all of your make up. I will then follow up with a makeup removing wipe to ensure that I got all of my eyeliner and mascara off. A lot of the time we miss those little bits that love to hang out under your lower lash line and can cause build up. My absolute favorite wipes are from Costco, no joke. They are the most efficient of all that I've tried (and we all know we have tried our fair share of makeup removing wipes!). They are also super saturated and don't feel like you're dragging a dry cloth across your face! My favorite splurge makeup wipe is Olehenricksen Truth On the Glow Cleansing Cloths. Dream. Come. True. But only on special occasions (aka pampering nights).
2.) Serum. This is where my new love comes in. The Murad Revitalixir Recovery Serum is described as "...a serum that restores skin's energy and smooths the complexion. Designed to alleviate stressed skin, this recovery serum hydrates with hyaluronic acid, while improving overall tone with niacinamind and wild indigo. Neuropeptides and caffeine address fine lines and puffiness, making it an excellent eye treatment as well." It can be used in the morning or in the evening. The serum has a pearlescent color when first pumped out, but changes to a beautiful hydrating glow once applied to the skin. Also - the smell of this product is absolutely devine. It smells like a spa in a bottle!
This serum is thin, but powerful. There is no doubt that it does all that claims. It only takes a few minutes to fully sink into the skin, which I love. Normally as someone who is dry, I love the feeling of a thick serum or moisturizer sitting on my skin for a few minutes, but I know this is doing the trick. After about 4 full weeks of using this everyday, I noticed a huge difference in my skin each morning. I prefer to use serums in my night time routine, because I (might be all in my head) don't like the idea of specific skincare being placed immediately under makeup. I like for it to have it's own time to shine. I know that serums can be pricey, but I think they are such an important step in your skin care. Once you find one that is right for you and works well with your skin - stick with it!
On days where I want a little bit extra hydration, I will do my nighttime routine earlier in the evening and use Cocokind's Facial Repair Serum. It aids in moisture and helps uneven skin tone, while aiding in calming down hyper-pigmentation, which I have on both cheeks. Their Chia Facial Oil is also one of my favorites. I'm all about products with super strong ingredients to target specific issues, but I also absolutely love an all natural product.
3.) Moisturize. Something I feel like I can't do enough of! In the morning I will use a lighter moisturizer as I know I'll be putting on makeup, but the evening for me is a free-for-all! I absolutely love and swear by It Cosmetics Secret Sauce (really wish they had come up with a different name for it, but I digress...) it is an amazing product. I really only focus it a bit below my eyes, on my cheeks and my forehead, then I will rub whatever excess I have left down my neck. Another product I love is the Burt's Bees Intense Hydration Night Cream. This stuff is NO joke. It's super thick, almost paste-like and you can feel the hydration while it's being applied. I don't use it every night, but about 2-3 times a week.
4.) Eye Cream. Although I use the Secret Sauce close to my under eye, I primarily focus the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex Synchronized Recovery (WHEW what a name) under my eyes. I'm on my second bottle and love this, although I know I will be testing out new eye creams once this bottle is empty.
Bonus Step: I do this every night, but I don't consider it skin care. I apply Mary Kay's Lash & Brow Building Serum to my eyelashes and brows. I haven't been as strict with using this every night, but I can already tell the difference after using it on and off for a few weeks. My overplucked (thanks teenage me) and sad brows need all the help they can get!
One last thing I would like to mention...I've seen influencers pushing Murad and it is clear that they haven't used the product at all (the pearls in the bottle go down as the serum is used, as you can see mine is about half full) but theirs are completely full. I just want to mention that I am not paid by Murad and my opinion is 100% real & my own. This product IS amazing and I would highly recommend it if you are in the market for a higher end serum. If not, there are plenty of others that work very very well!
What does your nighttime routine look like? Any suggestions for dry skin that I need to try?!
XOXO,
E
