Battle of the Drugstore Dry Shampoos!
You'd think that all dry shampoos are pretty similar right? Wrong! I've definitely tried my fair share of them, but here are my thoughts on these four shown!
To start off, I can't even begin to tell you how ashamed I am to say that before about a year ago, I had never tried a dry-shampoo and honestly had no idea why anyone would want to use one instead of just washing their hair. I've come to realize that not only does this prolong your locks from having to be washed, it also adds body and lift when you need it most. My hair is naturally ringlet curly but I refuse to wear it that way, so going as long as possible between washes is absolutely vital (especially to my sanity...my blow-dryer and I are not friends.)
The first dry shampoo I tried was by the brand Batiste. I've featured this brand in my previous monthly favorite post and I can safely say it will always be a favorite. Not only does this dry shampoo actually work to take out any shine from grease, it smells wonderful and does. it's. job! The way I use them that, for me, works the absolute best is to spray it on sections of my hair, on the crown, and right above my forehead. I then will pull all of my hair up into a pony and let the product work it's magic. The longer you leave the product in, the better it will work. Remember, it needs to sit at least for a minute to soak up the oils on your roots. Then, when ready, brush/rub the product into your scalp. The line also features a few types that work specifically for blondes and brunettes. They also feature many different bottle designs which are accompanied by different scents. (The blue bottle, as shown, and the leopard print are my favorite scents.) I think this is a great product that I KNOW I can rely on no matter what to do what I need, and isn't that what we all want in a product? Knowing what we are getting and knowing that it will deliver every single time!
I have found Batiste in many different locations but my favorite place to purchase them is at Ulta. (I usually get two at a time and use their $3.50 off any $10 purchase coupon found on their website) Batiste runs from $6-9. You can find it here.
I'm not even sure why, probably because I'm female, I wanted to venture out and see if there was anything out there I was missing by only using Batiste. I snagged a bottle of the Psssst! dry shampoo. I believe I found this at Ulta as well. I have to be honest, I've only used this particular dry shampoo a few times. It's a great product and does it's job as well, but I feel like it doesn't have the consistency of Batiste and you have to spray more product on than you think you would need to. The smell of this product is nice, nothing overpowering. I do notice that this dry shampoo leaves less of a white residue on your scalp/hair, and more of a translucent shade. Maybe because of this I think I need to apply more and it just turns into a mess. I will be giving this one more of a chance soon, so I'm definitely not discrediting it at all. The price tag is about the same as Batiste, $6-9 dollars. You can find it here.
Now, these last two dry shampoos I'm going to lump together and unfortunately advise you to stay away from. The two I am referring to are the Got2b Rockin' it, and the Not Your Mother's Clean Freak. These two are just....meh. I didn't notice really any change in the oil levels in my hair after using them. I found myself thinking "Did this do anything at all?" Maybe this would be nice for someone with super super fine hair, as mine is very thick and needs a lot of loving in this department. These both don't smell awful, but aren't the most pleasant either. Both found at Target / Walmart for under $7.
I can see myself continuing my hunt to try to find something better than Batiste but alas, for now, it is the winner. I've probably re-purchased over 15 bottles and will continue to do so. Perhaps I should just save my money and just stick with it completely. I know it works and I know it works well.
Do you have a favorite dry shampoo other than these? Any you think maybe could knock my beloved Batiste from the winning seat?
XOXO,
E
